Summit Power Group is a full-scope power project development firm. Founded in 1989, Summit has led or had significant involvement in the successful development of well over 5,000 megawatts of power projects representing over $7 billion in investment. Summit is actively developing wind power projects, solar power projects, natural gas projects, and coal gasification projects with carbon capture, along with several other clean energy technologies in pre-commercial stages of development.
Summit projects span the energy spectrum.
• Natural gas: Summit has developed more than 4,000 megawatts of combined and simple cycle natural gas generation projects.
• Wind: Summit has developed or had significant development roles in nearly 1000 megawatts of wind projects, already operating or under construction, with scheduled commercial operation dates ranging from 2009 to 2010. An additional 800 megawatts of wind resources is expected to come on line by the end of 2011.
• Solar: Summit recently teamed with REC to form PV Power Source, LLC and SunSource, LLC to develop and finance utility-scale solar power project throughout the western and southwestern United States.
• IGCC with CCS: In addition to TCEP, Summit is developing a potential twin project elsewhere in the West, and has the ability to develop other projects with the same design in the US and abroad.
• UCG: Summit has agreed to develop power plants and other surface facilities, including carbon capture, for underground coal gasification (UCG) projects through an agreement with the leading UCG technology company in North America.
Summit has a reputation for environmentally responsible power projects, and a sound record of bringing plants to completion on time and at or under budget. All operating plants that Summit has developed are performing at or better than expected levels.
Summit clients include electric utilities, industrial customers, and private entities that desire project ownership but rely on Summit's development capabilities and experience. Summit has the ability to fill a variety of roles, ranging from full-scope turnkey development to more targeted and narrow-scope responsibilities. Summit also has operations capability, and has served as operations manager for various projects, including tax accounting, financial reporting, and other asset management responsibilities.
